Marco Simone Golf Club / RYDER CUP

The golf club was named after the castle of Marco Simone, a fortified Roman manor farm in the outskirts of Rome. Its tower was built perhaps in the year 1000 AD, with additional structures added during the middle ages.  The castle was restored in the 1970s by fashion designer Laura Biagiotti and her husband Gianni Cigna while they resided at the castle.

In 1989 the golf course was built as a real golf stadium that will host important Italian golf events. The design maximized the natural countryside terrain with distance views of Castle Marco Simone, as well as Rome and the dome of St Peter’s Basilica enhancing the backdrop of the golf course. 

In 2023 Marco Simone Golf Club hosts the Ryder Cup, the 44th edition of the 3rd most significant sports event in the world following the Olympics and World Cup.
